Blackout is a feature of partitionary systems wherein switching is coordinated by causing the system to completely lose access to all memories of the headmate switching out and instead gain access to the memories of the headmate switching in. Thus, different headmates experience their respective consciousnesses as littered with sharp discontinuities, such as blinking and suddenly being in a different room.
