In one of the mountain city's residential clearings is a small cottage. It's a bit cheaply constructed, but it's charming and comfortable.
Mom used to live here. She can still be found here, if we wish with all our heart to see her again. To hear her voice again. To be held in her arms again. But if our wish falls short, it will just be an empty house, or someone else will turn out to live there.
The house sometimes has a downstairs area completely swamped with trash. In real life, that's where we used to live. We didn't do a good job of keeping our part of the house clean. Sometimes swimming among the trash are little bits and pieces of all the years before. Sometimes hostile things aware enough to stare us down from atop the local maxima, and alive enough to climb into our personal space for a closer look, should we fall asleep near them.
