Elaboration is any process by which headmates in a system become more distinct from one another and accumulate more psychological material into their disparate identities.
Under a psychiatric or otherwise integration-oriented view, elaboration is undesirable, but elaboration is not at odds with healthy multiplicity.
Parogenic systemhood involves intentional elaboration.
