A layer of a [[system]] is a self-contained grouping of [[headmate|headmates]], [[headspace]] locations, or other psychological material. Its [[role]] as a whole may be to conceal the existence or details of the layers below it from the awareness of the layers above it, particularly in [[partitionary]] systems.
