Elaboration is any process by which [[headmate|headmates]] in a [[system]] become more distinct from one another and accumulate more psychological material into their disparate identities.

Under a psychiatric or otherwise [[integration]]-oriented view, elaboration is undesirable, but elaboration is not at odds with [[healthy multiplicity]].

[[Parogenic]] systemhood involves intentional elaboration.
