A big is a [[headmate]] whose felt sense of mental age is in an adult range---especially as opposed to [[little|littles]] and/or [[middle|middles]] existing in the same [[system]], toward whom bigs might be protective.

In some systems---probably most---there are no big [[self|selves]] who are older than the [[body]], and if any bigs at all are older than the body, they are [[introject|introjects]]. However, this rule does not apply to at least a large minority of systems.

In systems with a [[host]], the host is usually a big.
